Carrying ACS registration number 28 — among the earliest cultivars formally registered by the American Camellia Society — this seedling from Quitman, Georgia, first flowered in 1938 under Mrs. E.M. Brice. The delicate, soft pink flowers in loose peony (semi-double) form are accompanied by very large, roundish leaves of rather thin texture. Illustrated in Hertrich's 1955 Camellias in the Huntington Gardens. Has produced a variegated sport, 'Martha Brice Variegated.' Listed locally as 'Bree' and registered as 'Martha Brice.'
