Anemoni Flora

Anemoni Flora
The prototype anemone form — brought from China to England in 1806, this turkey-red japonica defined the entire 'anemone' flower classification still used today.
Brought from China to England in 1806 and described in Curtis's Botanical Magazine in 1814, this cultivar is literally the prototype of the 'anemone form' classification — the flower whose structure defined the category. The blooms feature five to six large outer guard petals with emarginate apices surrounding a central cushion of ligulate petaloids, seven-and-a-half to eight centimeters across in turkey red that can become very dark in some conditions. Growth is open, vigorous, and spreading. Described and illustrated in numerous horticultural publications of the early nineteenth century. Listed locally as 'Anemoni Flora' and registered as 'Anemoniflora.' Source: International Camellia Register.
