Sanford Place
A forty-one-year seedling of 'Magnoliaeflora' — clear pink fading to a pure white center third, from an Auburn, Alabama, professor's garden.
Originated by Dr. Richard L. Guthrie of Auburn, Alabama, as an extraordinary forty-one-year chance seedling of 'Magnoliaeflora' (Hagoromo) — one of the longest development periods in the entire collection. First bloomed in the late 1980s, the formal double flowers display clear pink fading to a pure white center third, a lovely graduated effect. Registered by the Auburn-Opelika Men's Camellia Club and propagated by Kenneth M. Rogers. Listed locally as 'Sanford Place' and registered as 'Samford Park.' Source: International Camellia Register.
