The self-red sport of 'Hikarugenji' — one of the most famous and widely distributed japonicas worldwide, named for the protagonist of The Tale of Genji. While the parent displays pink-and-white variegation, this sport reverts to solid red in large peony form. Extensively illustrated in major Japanese and Western camellia references including Adachi's 1960 Camellia: Its Appreciation and Artistic Arrangement and Macoboy's 1981 Colour Dictionary.
