Governor Moutan
A pre-1932 Louisiana japonica with pure red blooms blotched white — wide spreading willowy growth, from the Jennings Nursery Company.
First listed in the Jennings Nursery Company catalogue of 1932 from Jennings, Louisiana, and more fully described by McIlhenny in 1934: pure red, irregular double, blotched white, ten-and-a-half centimeters across by five deep, with two rows of large outer petals and a center of large petals mixed with petaloids and some stamens. Dark green, twisted leaves measure seven-and-a-half by five centimeters. Growth is wide, spreading, willowy, and medium in rate. Listed locally as 'Governor Moutan' and registered as 'Governor Mouton.' Source: International Camellia Register.
