Pirate's Gold

A Theodore, Alabama seedling with an unusual equal count of thirty-four petals and thirty-four petaloids — dark red variegated semi-double on upright spreading growth.
Originated by J.M. Haynie of Theodore, Alabama — in the Mobile area that is one of the Gulf Coast's prime camellia regions. This ten-year chance seedling produces dark red variegated semi-double flowers with an unusual count of thirty-four petals matched by thirty-four petaloids — a symmetry of petal and petaloid numbers rarely noted in registration descriptions. Growth is upright, spreading, open, and average-paced with dark green foliage. Source: International Camellia Register.
