A bright red large peony from small-town Greenville, Alabama — vigorous and upright with multiple synonyms including 'Steven's Pink' and 'Red Dale.'
Originated in Greenville, Alabama, and first listed in the 1942–1943 Overlook Nursery Catalogue. The large full peony-form flowers in bright red bloom mid-season to late on vigorous, upright growth. Known under multiple synonyms including 'Steven's Pink,' 'Red Dale,' and 'Henderson,' reflecting the typical nomenclatural confusion of the mid-century era. Has produced a variegated sport, 'Pride of Greenville Variegated.' Illustrated in Hertrich's 1955 Camellias in the Huntington Gardens. Listed locally as 'Red Jade' and registered as 'Pride of Greenville.' Source: International Camellia Register.
