Winter Fire

A cold-hardy Ackerman hybrid crossing oleifera with sasanqua — bred in Maryland for survival where most camellias fail.
One of the celebrated Ackerman cold-hardy hybrids developed in Ashton, Maryland, where winter temperatures routinely test camellia survival limits. The cross of C. oleifera with C. sasanqua produced a semi-double flower in clear pink with twelve petals, yellow anthers, and white filaments — first blooming in 1984 after twelve years from seed. Growth is upright at medium rate with dark green leaves. Listed locally as 'Winter Fire' and registered as 'Winter's Fire.' Source: International Camellia Register.
