Southern Angels
A dark velvet-red semi-double seedling of 'Royal Velvet' — thirteen years from seed, from Lucedale, Mississippi.
Originated by Glenn and Jill Read of Lucedale, Mississippi, as a thirteen-year seedling of C. japonica 'Royal Velvet' that first bloomed in 2012. The medium to large semi-double flowers display dark velvet red with golden anthers and reddish filaments. Growth is vigorous, upright, and dense. Listed locally as 'Southern Angels (NR - Gene Phillips)' and registered as 'Southern Princess.' Source: International Camellia Register.
