Sawada's Mahogeny

Sawada's Mahogeny
A dark red anemone-to-peony with white-speckled petaloids, originated by K. Sawada and propagated decades later by Bobby Green.
Originated by K. Sawada of Mobile, Alabama — the legendary nurseryman — as a chance seedling that first flowered in 1971 but was not registered until 2008, nearly four decades later. The anemone to peony-form flowers in dark red feature petaloids speckled with white, creating a rich mahogany effect that inspired the name. Propagated by Bobby Green of Fairhope, Alabama. Growth is upright and vigorous, with an exceptionally long bloom season from early to late. Listed locally as 'Sawada's Mahogeny' and registered as 'Sawada's Mahogany.'
