Sadaharu Oh

Sadaharu Oh
A wild rusticana (snow camellia) collected in Toyama Prefecture — rosy-red peony flowers with long recurved wavy petals found growing in nature.
Not a garden cultivar but a wild form of C. rusticana (snow camellia) collected from Toyama Prefecture, Japan — 'Sasahara' being the place of collection. Described by Tuyama (1968) as having peony-type flowers in rosy red (Cherry 722/2) with 10 to 15 long, recurved, wavy, and lobulate petals and stamens arranged in distinctive double circles. The obovate to broad-elliptic leaves are small with shortly cuspidate-acuminate tips and very hairy petioles. Listed locally as 'Sadaharu Oh' and registered as 'Sasahara.'
